Positive Season Opener from Clare

Kyalami Raceway, Midrand – Last weekend saw the first round of this year’s WesBank V8 Supercar Championship take place at the Kyalami Raceway in Midrand. Clare Vale planned to start this season on a positive note, building on her excellent season in 2009. Johannesburg produced a perfect summer day for the opening race weekend, without the showers that most competitors were expecting. Qualifying saw Clare struggle with under-steer but still manage a creditable 9th position. Heat 1 saw her in an epic dice with Roelf du Plessis, finishing a closely contested 8th.

Heat 2 saw Clare again starting her Gatorback RAM Mustang from 9th on the grid. Good hard racing from Clare saw her climb to 5th in the heat, a position she held till the finish. A solid start to the year’s racing for the First Lady, despite the constant set up problems over the race weekend.

Clare on her weekend, “The team were totally focused on a good result for our first 2010 race, and despite last minute rule changes they gave me the best car they possibly could. I was equally determined to fight for every point on the track and we will be working hard to make the car even better for Cape Town.”
